Claudia Black Leaves “Ahsoka” Season 2 Role without Accepting the Offer, Casting for Two Women in Their Forties Underway

Characters Ahsoka casts Claudia Black, who portrayed the powerful Nightsister Great Mother Klothow in season 1 of Ahsoka, says she won’t be returning for season 2. The actress revealed it was a heart-wrenching but necessary decision for financial and personal reasons. Citing her status as a solo mother who lives in Los Angeles, Black revealed she couldn’t afford to take what the production company was offering for compensation in order to uproot and live overseas for an extended production schedule.

But, Season 2 of Ahsoka is filming in London, and Black had her doubts when weighing the offer. She sounded disappointed for real, saying it was “the most extraordinary” thing to become a part of the Star Wars world. But the low wages, in combination with harsh realities as a single mother raising children, made participation impossible. Black pointed out that she had tried to look for a way to make the commitment happen, but it just wasn’t going to be able to.

Effects on the “Ahsoka” Season 2 Plot

The character of Klothow, played by Claudia Black, first appeared as one of the Great Mothers — a cadre of powerful Nightsisters who backed Grand Admiral Thrawn’s campaign to retake the galaxy. Their evil sorcery and power molded crucial moments in Season 1, and followers were expecting an increased role for them in Season 2. But now that Black is stepping back away from the project, they’ll either have to re-cast the part or change course and trim or completely overhaul the Nightsisters’ role in next season’s story.

The Ahsoka Season 2 started filming in April 2025 in the UK and it will be released in 2026. Continuing to bulk up its confirmed main cast — a list that already includes Rosario Dawson and Hayden Christensen — the series dives further into the post-Empire era of the Star Wars timeline. Black’s exit was one of the first major cast changes of the season, and already has provoked conversations over compensation practices for sprawling franchises.

Even though she was leaving, Black said that she was “thankful for everything I learned and the opportunity to meet so many amazing people,” adding that it’s something she’ll never forget, along with the fans who loved her portrayal of Klothow. Although the show has gone on without her, her performance is still fondly remembered as part of the series’ murkier mythological aspects. It is now unclear how the Nightsisters storyline could come to fruition in future, as it remains to be seen if the character will be recast or a whole new arc developed for season 2.
