Meta President Appointment Indicates Change in Strategy

Meta Platforms has named Dina Powell McCormick as its new president and vice chairman, marking a significant move for the company, given its rapid progress in investing in AI, infrastructure, and expansion plans. Powell McCormick will join Meta’s top management team and help determine the company’s corporate strategy.

The hiring makes Powell McCormick one of Meta’s highest-ranking decision-makers as the company continues to invest in large-scale data centre infrastructure, energy, and compute resources.

Dina Powell McCormick to Oversee Strategic Investments

As the president at Meta, Dina Powell McCormick will engage in close collaboration with the internal teams driving infrastructure, capital planning, and strategic partnerships. She is also responsible for aligning Meta’s significant investments with its long-term objectives and supports execution across core business priorities.

This role will reinforce oversight of Meta’s ever-growing portfolio of projects and financial commitments worldwide.

Extensive Background in Finance and Public Service

Dina Powell McCormick has more than two decades of experience in global finance, economic development, and government. Before her current role, she served as the head of international corporate affairs for an international investment bank.

Her public service experience includes senior national security and economic appointments across several administrations in the US government, providing her with direct experience with international markets and affairs.

Previous Relationship with Meta

Powell McCormick was a member of Meta’s board of directors before she assumed her current role as Meta president. However, she resigned from her role on the board of directors late in 2025, just before taking on her new role at Meta.

Her re-appointment is an indication of the company’s stance on having strong leadership. This is especially true considering the type of investments the company is currently making.

Leadership at a Critical Growth Phase

This comes at a time when Meta is trying to build the infrastructure for and scale various artificial intelligence endeavours. This is because Meta has recognised the value of competent supervision as it deals with various regulatory challenges and high capital outlays.

Powell McCormick’s diverse skill set, spanning finance, government, and strategy, is anticipated to help Meta in the next stage of its development.
