Protesters all over the United States gathered on Saturday, April 5, for the “Hands Off!” protests marches in favor of the nationwide protest They are opposing the actions that President Trump takes and his DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) head, Elon Musk, who is the CEO of Tesla.
We remember Musk and Trump harshly cutting programs for ‘wasting resources’ by laying off entire government branches and canceling contracts within the first few weeks of the presidency. Even the Education Department had tried to be ‘dismantled.’ An image showing a young girl participating in a protest in Atlanta went viral with the caption “Hands Off My Education.”
Various cities around the world organized their local Hands Off! petitions for the consideration of other movements on LGBTQ+ rights, migration, or ecology by different social organizations.
“Stop Destroying America” and “Stop Wasting Resources” We’re some of the slogans people used at different rallies to express the concerns of establishing proposed government. In Los Angeles, California, people went on foot from City Hall to Pershing Square.
As per the directions from Hands Off!, the calls for the protest included “an end to the takeover of the Trump Administration by billionaires” and “an end to the assaults on immigrants, trans people, and other targeted communities.”
During the Trump’s day, protesters highlighted the President’s efforts to eliminate the nation’s climate initiatives as well as the reduction of funding to some health programs.
In relation to the mass protests that took place on April 5, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt was quoted telling USA TODAY, “Anyone who thinks protests, lawsuits, and lawfare will deter…President Trump… for the past several years. President Trump will keep working to fulfill his promises to make the government more efficient and responsible to hardworking American taxpayers.
Alongside these remarks, the White House also stated, “President Trump’s position is clear: he will always protect Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid for eligible benefits.” They defended their position by saying, “The Democrats support illegal immigrants, which will drain these programs and hurt American seniors.
The Social Security changes have been harshly criticized by former Vice President of Trump’s Democratic counterpart in the 2024 elections, Kamala Harris, who spoke regarding the sudden surge of protests this past Saturday. Sharing her thoughts publicly through X (formally known as Twitter), she stated: “Today in every state across our nation, Americans are standing up to the administration as they implement Project 2025 at full swing.”
The rest of the statement said: “Thank you for speaking out and protesting to protect Social Security, the Department of Education, Head Start, and the right to make decisions about your own body.
The voices of everyday working people will always be stronger than those of unelected billionaires.
In the toolkit designed for potential march organizers, there was supposed to be quite a large rejection of the crisis, which pops off a national descreetable rage unlike ever recorded. The protests were circulating at the time when the u.s. stock markets were crashing after Trumps latest application of tariffs which he uncovered on the 2 april during a day now referred to as liberation day.
